The University of Nebraska intends to procure a qualified contractor to provide pre-construction services and construction services as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMR) for UNMC DRC 1 DRC 2 Biocontainment Facility Improvements project. The estimated construction cost for the CMR Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) is $1,500,000.00. The total estimated construction budget including the GMP, in-house construction services, and the Owner’s contingency is $
1,699,600.00
.
The work to be performed will be at the UNMC Durham Research Centers 1 and 2 facilities (DRC1 and DRC2) located at South 45th Street and Dewey Avenue in Omaha. Spread between DRC1 and DRC2 facilities contain research laboratories, tissue culture rooms, instrument rooms, walk-in cold rooms, freezer rooms, dark rooms, imaging rooms and 2 Biosafety Level 3 laboratory (BSL-3) and Animal Biosafety Level 3 laboratory suites (ABSL-3).
The project will improve biocontainment infrastructure within key biocontainment research facilities in a way that increases capacity to conduct research on high-consequence pathogens, maximizes synergy between the various biocontainment laboratories and increases biosecurity. Upgrades in the modern technologies needed in the BSL-3 and ABSL-3 laboratories to conduct cutting-edge studies on new and emerging pathogens and to address critical questions related to disease pathogenesis.
